Romans 8:5
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
Many people say that they want to walk in the things of God. They say that it is important for them to know the ways of God and to walk in the power of the Spirit. What some people don’t know and aren’t willing to acknowledge is that to walk in the power of God and to flow with the Spirit, there is a price to pay. The price is high, but the rewards far exceed the cost.
The believer who chooses this walk will daily experience peace, joy and righteousness in the Holy Spirit. He will also live in a realm of victory that cannot be squelched, no matter what comes against him.
If you are going to walk this way, there will be times when you have to say, ”No” to things that you would like to be able to say “Yes” to. At other times you will have to say “Yes” to things that you would like to say “No” to. It will be necessary in all things to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as He reveals God’s will to your inner man.
Those who are minding, or living according to, the flesh will be under the control of its unholy desires. Their minds will be set upon and will be pursuing the things which gratify the flesh, but those who live by and according to the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the Spirit.
To walk in the Spirit, the believer must stay filled with the Spirit. This is accomplished by continually choosing right thoughts, companionship, conversation, music, entertainment, et cetera.
For example, if we choose to spend our time being a blessing, we will experience the blessedness of God’s anointing being released in us, empowering us. On the other hand, if we choose gossip and criticism, we will experience all the misery that walking in the flesh offers.
