That’s My Word

Matthew 14:29

And he said,”Come.” And when Peter was come down out of the boat, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

What an incredible story. Peter actually walked on water. Now you and I both know that walking on water is not possible in the natural. There are only two situations that I know of that this can happen. One is when you are ice fishing and the other is when Jesus calls you out to walk on the water.

In reading this account in Matthew, I have found a principle that really will revolutionize a person’s Christian walk if they will grasp it. I see in this account that all the disciples were in the boat. The question that comes to my mind is, “Why was Peter the only one who got out of the boat and walked on the water to Jesus?” It would seem that as fearful as they all were, that all of them would have jumped over the side and run to the security of Jesus. There is no indication, however, that any of the others even thought about doing that.

I believe the answer to that question lies in the distinction between the Logos and the Rhema. Logos is the written word of God. It is what we all have, the Bible. Notice, John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Then in verse 14, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory. We know that this is talking about Jesus, of course. The Word (Logos) became flesh and dwelt among us. When we beheld His glory, He was revealed to us as the Word (Rhema).

Rhema is the revealed Word of God. The other disciples heard Jesus speak, to them it was Logos. But, because He spoke it to Peter, who had asked Jesus if he could come out of the boat, that same Word was Rhema. Rhema is a special Word for a special time to a person with a special need. It is the revealed and personal Word of God to you when you need a Word. Then you can say, “That’s my Word!”

MY WORD CONFESSION: Lord, I ask today for a Rhema Word for my life that I may have special revelation and understanding.
