A Merry Heart

Proverbs 15:13

A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken

The Bible has a lot to say about the condition of the heart. Today we want to look at three verses that deal with our hearts.

This verse shows us that you can tell a lot about a person by looking at their face. It is easy in day to day living to see who has a merry heart and who doesn’t. How is your countenance today, what is it revealing about your heart?

Many people who are tired and broken down are that way, because they let their heart get into a broken state and as the heart is, so is the person.

The next verse is Proverbs 15:15. It says that all the days of the afflicted are evil, but he that has a merry heart has a continual feast. That is so good, think about that. A merry heart gives you a continual feast in life. So much of the world and even so many Christians are living barren and boring lives because they let their heart lose it’s merry attitude. Do you want a continual feast in this life, living the good times,or will you be satisfied with the evil and barren life of a sad heart?

The next verse is Proverbs 17:22. This verse says that a merry heart does good like a medicine. Think about that for a minute. This says that you are literally helped physically by having a merry heart. Many hundreds of years after this was written, scientist have found that when a person laughs, there body releases endorphins. These are special substances released in the body to help keep you healthy. Now isn’t that just like God? He helps us to be happy and gives us a merry heart so that we can be healthy too?

MY WORD CONFESSION: I have a merry heart therefore I have a joyful countenance, a feast in life and health too.
