John 1:12
But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on His name.
The Bible often speaks of believers as being children. It says that we must come to God as children. Have you noticed the way that children come to their fathers? They have a very special and secure attitude each and every time they approach their fathers. Now I am not at all ignoring the fact that some situations are not normal and some kids don’t have much of a relationship with their dads. I am addressing the normal loving father/child relationship.
Boy, I can tell you from experience that when my children need or want something, they come running in, jump in my lap, give me a hug and then lay out the list. They are not shy nor bashful about making their needs and wants known in detail. I sometimes give them a hard time, but I love it and wouldn’t want it any other way.
As God’s children, we must come unto Him in this same way. If we are going to be obedient to God, we must have that simple childlike faith that He will not turn us away. We must trust in Him the way children trust in their earthly fathers. Just as little children are dependent on their earthly fathers for everything that they need and everything that they desire, so too, we must learn to depend on our heavenly Father for all of our needs and all our desires. God tells us in His word that if we will delight in Him, that He will give us the desires of our hearts. By the way, He is already delighting in you, His child.
Did you know that in 1John 4:4 that the word translated children is really the word darlings. It reads, You are of God, little darlings…Have you ever thought that God thinks of you as one of His little darlings?
Loving parents are willing to suffer for their children, and God is no exception. He suffered the loss of His own Son so that you could become one of His little darlings. Don’t you think that you can trust Him to give to you the very best that He has in this world and the next?
