Set Apart

John 17:16-17

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth; thy word is truth.

This, you will recognize, is part of the prayer that Jesus prayed. It is the prayer that He prayed for His disciples and all those who would later come to be His followers. This includes every born again saint from that time till now. Praise the Lord, that means it is a prayer that Jesus prayed for me. I am the beneficiary of this prayer and so are you if you are a born again believer. The word sanctify means to be set apart for a specific and holy purpose. As Jesus said, we are not of this world. Yes, we live in this world, but we do not have our roots here, our citizenship is not in this world, but heaven. Just as Jesus was not of the world, so we are not either. This has a wonderful and powerful implication to us as believers. It means that I do not have to operate according to this world’s system. I am not bound by the same physical limitations that bind the world system. I can appeal to a higher source. I have the privilege of living in the spiritual realm, the supernatural realm, the realm that supersedes the natural. In this realm, the spoken word has creative power. Just as in the beginning, when God “said” and all things were created, so I also have the power to speak the Word and call things into being.

Abraham lived in this faith realm, he called those things which were not as though they were. He saw what he wanted and began to speak it as though it were already a reality, and he got what he said. As believers, you and I are set apart for a holy and specific purpose by the Word of God. Don’t limit yourself to the world’s ability and by the world’s system of working. Go beyond and soar into the realm of God, the spiritual realm. You were not created to be limited by this world and it’s fallen way of living. Remember, the Word is truth.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I am not of this world, but am set apart for a holy purpose, I operate in the Spirit on the Word of God.
