The Day Before Christmas

Luke 2:8

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

That day started out just like any other day. There was the business of getting the morning breakfast, getting the flock to water and then on to the feeding pastures. There were sheep that needed special care due to sickness or accident. Not much had changed over the years, times came and times went, yet the shepherd business was the same day after day. As the day closed, there was the gathering and the separating to be done, the final watering and the bedding down of the flocks. It looked like an endless cycle that would forever be the same. The day in and day out insignificance of watching the sheep would go on forever.

Little did these simple shepherds know, that this was a very special day and that they had a meeting with destiny that very night. For, this was the day before Christmas. The day upon which all of time divides was upon them. The days before the birth and the days after that birth. All of the world would recognize this day as the greatest of all days, for, before the sun in the heavens would rise again, the Son of God would be born. We Christians celebrate this day all over the world. Preparations are being made for the anniversary of that birth. Families are getting together, friends are having parties, and the little ones are on their best behavior anticipating gifts. Yes, this is a very special day.

Had the world known that they were living on the day before that birth, the day before Christmas, I believe life would have been anything but mundane. There would have been celebrations, parties, gifts and merriment all around, preparations would have been made, but, they didn’t know. The Bible says that this same Son is coming again. We don’t know when, but soon. Don’t be so caught up in the things of life, that you miss the reason for life. The baby who came, is the King who is coming. This may be the day before that great arrival. Are you ready?

MY WORD CONFESSION: The Lord is coming soon and I will live my life in such a way as to be ready for that coming.
