Keys To Victory

Romans 6:1-2

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer in it?

We all have heard the saying, ”Easier said than done.” You know, that is so true. It is so easy to say that we are supposed to have an abundant life and to live in victory over sin. It is even pretty easy to do it on Sunday morning, once you get to church and get over all the defeats and haggles of getting there. You know what I am talking about. You have been there too.

If we look at Romans 6, we will find that there are 4 key words used that will help us to overcome sin and to have a victorious life. They are , know, reckon, yield and obey.Let’s look at the first word, “Know”. We are told in this chapter that we are to experience the same death to our old life that Jesus did, that we died with Christ. Now, knowing this means that sin should have no more dominion over us, because if we are dead to it, it cannot tempt us. It is so important to know this truth.

Now that we know, we can move on to the next word, “reckon.“ this means to count on it to be so. You see after we know the truth of our death to sin and sin’s rule over us, we have to declare it to be. This makes it a reality in our lives. The Bible says that we will have what we say. So, it is important to say, “I am dead unto this sin.”

Now we are ready to yield. The Bible says that we cannot serve two masters. Therefore to whomever or whatever we yield, that will become our master. If we yield to God then sin cannot be our master. It is a choice of your will who you choose to yield to.Fourthly, we must obey. Whoever we yield to, we obey. Since we’ve already yielded to God, we now can be free to obey Him, and not sin. Thanks be unto God who causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I know the truth of God’s Word and I reckon it to be so as I yield my life in obedience to Him.
