Matthew 8:27
But the men marveled, saying, “What manner of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
You can throw away the book, things aren’t like they used to be and aren’t like we suppose that they are going to be. We have entered into times that defy the norm. Don’t expect the things that worked last year to work this year. God is moving us into a new and exciting era and we must stay in close communication with Him if we want to keep up.
That is the way that the disciples must have felt in the incident surrounding this verse today. Picture this, here they are, all caught up in a terrific storm in a small boat. Now the normal thing to do in a situation like this is to batten down the hatches, get the buckets and start bailing, and in general prepare to meet your maker.
Well, this was not normal times, their maker was in the boat with them; sound asleep. He wasn’t in the least worried about the storm, the winds or the waves. He had peace in the middle of the storm. This bothered His disciples so they woke Him up and said, “Lord, don’t you see that we are getting ready to die out here and don’t you even care?” You can read it in their voices, they were afraid.
Jesus sat up, looked around and summed up the situation. Then, He did something that was totally out of the norm. He spoke to the disciples and said, “O ye of little faith.” Then He continued out of the norm and rebuked the storm and great peace came over the seas.
You can be assured that the peace that came over the seas was not nearly as great as the peace that came over the disciples when they realized that their master was The Master, even over the seas.
Yes, the norm is out and Jesus is in. Let His peace rule in your hearts and trust Him to calm each and every storm in your life.
