Psalms 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
I t is so good to have the Bible give us promises like this. I don’t know about you, but I need to be told things like this all the time. I need to be reminded of these things. We are living in such a rapidly changing world. What was so yesterday just isn’t necessarily so today. What you used to could count on; you may not be able to count on anymore. With the things of this world the way they are, the norm is that there is really no norm anymore.
This is why this verse is so special to us today. Just think of it. No matter where we are, no matter how difficult the situation and no matter what the circumstance may be, we can be assured that God’s goodness and mercy are following us wherever we go.
You know, it is like this. We have an enemy who would love to disrupt our lives and destroy our fellowship and faith. But, anytime he tries to bring destruction, we have goodness. He sends strife and we have goodness. When turmoil arises all around us, we can rely on goodness to take care of us. It is God’s goodness, and it will keep us in every situation or trial that the devil brings to us.
Well, since that is not working for the devil, he will try to send condemnation upon us. He reminds us of our shortcomings, but mercy steps in and says it is forgiven. He brings up something that we just recently did that was wrong and mercy takes the stage, picks up the microphone and announces to all that it is also covered by the blood of Jesus, therefore, it is forgiven too.
Yes, in this world we will be tested and tried, but goodness and mercy will keep us company and escort us into His house to dwell forever in His unhindered fellowship and love.
