Serve With Gladness

Psalm 100:2

Serve the Lord with gladness! Come before His presence with singing!

One of the great misconceptions among Christians is that we have to do some great thing in this life in order for God to be pleased with us. God is not nearly as hard to please as most think that He is.

Serving God is not putting aside everything that is fun in life. It is not living a life of boredom and dullness. To the contrary, the life that God desires for the Christian is one that is full and wonderful, one that gives total and complete satisfaction. In fact, God delights in giving his child the desires of his heart.

It is evident as we study the Bible that God wants joy and gladness to dominate the life of every believer. It is this simple thing that brings joy to God and blesses Him. For a believer to serve the Lord with joy and gladness means a great deal to Him.

There are so many people who are not really enjoying their lives and ministries. This is not God’s plan. He want us to not only enjoy our lives and ministries, but also to have joy and gladness through the process. What a tragedy to come all the way through life and realize at the end of it all that there was no real enjoyment and gladness during the trip.

Paul said that he wanted to finish his course with joy. (Acts 20:24) But none of these things move me; neither do I esteem my life dear to myself, if only I may finish my course with joy, and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.I agree with Paul, what an awesome goal: to serve the Lord with gladness and to finish our course with joy.

Whatever your present station in life, whatever your are called to do, wherever you are called to go, enjoy the journey. Don’t waste one day of the precious life that God has given you.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I will serve the Lord with gladness and will come into His presence with singing.
