Live And Let Live

1 Thessalonians 4:11

This should be your ambition: to live a quiet life, minding your own business and doing your own work, just as we told you before. TLB

The term “live and let live” means literally, you live your life and don’t try to tell me how to live mine and I will do the same toward you. Some people think that their mission in life is to tell everyone else how they should be living and what they should be doing. Some people just have to be, as they say today, “Up in my business.”

Did you know that the Bible also teaches us that we should adhere to the practice of minding our own business and living our own lives so as not to interfere with the lives of others? It says that we should make it a point to live quietly and peacefully, minding our own affairs. This is a thing that we are told to endeavor to do. It should be that we make it our business to mind our own business.

This is so opposite of what most of the world and much of Christianity practices. The sad thing is that this is the root cause of many of our problems. Many times we get into things that were really none of our business to start with and either make people mad or hurt others and ourselves in the process. There is no anointing to handle the affairs of others. That is why things get so messy when we do try to intervene in areas that are none of our business. Obviously, there is a time and a place to get involved to help someone in need, but there is also a boundary line that should be honored when it comes to the affairs of others. A good rule of thumb to go by in these situations is, if I am not part of the problem or part of the solution to the problem, then probably I have no business being involved in that situation at all. If everyone would live by that rule, life would be much more peaceful and many less people would be offended.

Let me encourage you not to get entangled in the messy webs that others weave. Taking up the offense of another too often becomes an offense to you. Live peaceably and mind your own business.

MY WORD CONFESSION: It is my ambition to live a quiet life, minding my own business and doing my own work for God’s glory.
