Isaiah 6:1
…I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up and His train filled the temple.
This verse tells of a special time in the life of the prophet Isaiah. He had a vision of the awesome majesty and holiness of God. He got a glimpse into the throne room where God was on His throne surrounded by powerful angelic beings, the seraphim, who were crying out, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.”This event in the life of Isaiah was so dramatic that it had a life changing effect upon him. In light of God’s holiness and splendor, he realized how imperfect and undone he was before God. He saw with his own eyes the magnitude of the difference between God and man and it made him humbly worshipful of God in a way that he had never been before.
In each and every life, I have found that it is very important for us to have this same type of revelation. We need to understand the holiness and majesty of God. We get plenty of teaching on God’s grace and mercy. Sometimes we hear so much about those things that we forget that God is also awesome in His holiness. We sometimes miss the truth of how amazing it is that we can know the same God that Isaiah saw and spoke of here in such a personal way as to refer to Him as Abba Father or Daddy.
I am not at all implying that we need to be afraid of God. He certainly doesn’t want that. But, I do think that we need to rethink and re-teach some ideas about God. We need to remember that, although He does want a personal relationship with us, He is still the God of the universe. He is still the one who speaks and everything obeys. We need to remember, that it is all God, we had nothing but sin and separation before He paid the price so that we could forever be forgiven. He is high and lifted up. Amen
