Mind Games

2 Corinthians 10:6

Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ . . .

It has been said that whoever controls the mind, controls the body. That is a very true statement. If you can gain control of a person’s mind, you can literally control what that person does, how they will respond to certain stimuli. The mind is a very powerful force, exerting power that will win over ration and reason. You see, if a person thinks a certain way, they will respond in accordance to their thinking. This is why there has been so much emphasis by our enemies of the past on brainwashing the POWs that they have taken. They are simply trying to gain control of them by controlling their minds.

The Bible says the same thing another way in Proverbs 23:7, For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. This little verse has volumes of truth in it. I can assure you that you will be what you think you are. If you think that you are a low down dirty rotten scoundrel, then you will act like one. On the other hand, if you think of yourself as a kindhearted, loving and gentle person, you will act in accordance to that also.

Now let us apply this truth to our daily Christian life. The Bible really builds us up. It says that we are of a royal priesthood, that we are declared righteous, that there is no guile or sin in us who are in Christ Jesus. It even tells us that we have the mind of Christ. We are blessed and are to have prosperity, health and victory in every area, every day of our lives. Is this a description of you and most of the Christians that you know? Probably not. Now, I wonder why this is not so in most of our lives. I believe that it is because many Christians have lost the battle for the mind. The devil has been playing mind games and has been very successful, in most cases, in convincing people that they are not really who the Bible says that they are and that they cannot do what it says that they can do.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I am what God says I am, I bring every one of my thoughts into captivity and obedience to Christ right now.
