Taking It To The Streets

Matthew 28:19

Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

This verse is often called the Great Commission. It is the last thing that Jesus spoke to His disciples before He was taken up to be at the right hand of the Father. He went on to say to teach them to observe all things that I have taught you.

Do you realize what Jesus was really saying here? He was giving His disciples the authority to go out and make other disciples, who were to keep making other disciples as long as time allowed. That comes down all the way to the days that we are living in now. This was a perpetual command to spread the Gospel all over the world until the end of time.

Most people will agree that Jesus wanted us all to take the reigns in our time from those who passed before us and to win souls for the Kingdom of God. That is certainly a big part of the message that Jesus left here giving. But, what so many do not realize is that He didn’t just say to win souls and baptize them. He went on to say something that is very interesting and exciting. He said that each one was to teach the next one all the things that He taught His disciples to do while He was here on this earth. In reality, what He was doing here was making disciples and modeling for us how disciples were to live.

Now if we look at this closely, we see that we are to be taught and to teach others to do the same works that Jesus taught. We are to be in the miracle business. We are to be laying hands on the sick. We should be casting out demons. There should be signs and wonders accompanying our lives and ministries. This is true for all believers, not just for special ones. We are to be taking it to the streets, doing the same works that Jesus did. (Read Mark 16:15-20)

MY WORD CONFESSION: I am a disciple of Jesus and I will go into the world and make other disciples as He has said.
