Getting In Sync

Colossians 3:2

Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.

I once heard a very interesting illustration just recently. There was a man who retrieved his watch, which he had not worn for quite some time, out of his dresser drawer. He was not aware that the time had changed since the last time that he wore that watch, and therefore it was running one hour behind the new time. You know, everywhere he went that day, he was late by one hour. This made his schedule totally out of sync with everyone else’s. He was just arriving at meetings when everyone else was leaving. Everything he did was off. When he finally got home that night, an hour late, his wife asked him where he had been and why he was late getting home. His reply was that he was not late, but that for some reason everyone else had been early all day.

You know, so it is in this life if we are not in tune with what God is doing, if we are not aware of the spiritual aspect of our lives. We must realize that God has a plan for us and that He has a timetable that is working in these days. We must recognize this and discern the times. If we don’t, we will be like the man in the illustration. We will be out of sync in all that we do. We will be ignorant of what is really going on in the world.

Man is not born set to the right scale. We are born in tune with the world and the natural realm. That is why the Bible says that we need to be reborn. In so doing, we now have the capacity to live and discern in the spiritual realm. It is so important now that we reset our thinking, our minds, our affections on things above and not on things on the earth. Set our minds on spiritual things and not natural things. We are to be discerners in the spirit, seeing beyond the mere natural. If we don’t, we will be constantly out of sync.
