2 Corinthians 3:18
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, and are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord
We have all heard of the glory of the Lord. It is sometimes likened unto a cloud, sometimes like a mist or vapor and sometimes it is like unto cloven tongues of fire accompanied by the sound of a rushing mighty wind.
In the Old Testament, the glory would come, or descend and remain for a season and then would depart. When Moses went upon Mt. Sinai and stood in the glory and presence of God, he returned and his face shone with that glory. It had actually made such a drastic difference in his physical countenance that the people saw it and were astonished, some were even afraid.
In the New Testament, we see the glory of God coming on the day of Pentecost, and as Jesus taught, remaining available to all men and women everywhere. We also still hear of the physical manifestations of the glory today, where clouds appear to or descend upon a group of believers. What an awesome event.
Yet, I believe that the Bible teaches that we can dwell continually in the glory of God. Look at this verse and notice what it says. It says that as we with an open face behold the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image. The same image of what? The same image of the glory that we behold. If you will notice, it says that we are changed into the same image from glory to glory. So, actually it is an ongoing and progressive process.
As we gaze upon, in our spirits and meditate upon in our minds, the glory of the Lord, He changes us so that we reflect that glory. We literally become a representation of the glory of the Lord to the world, they can see it on our faces and sense it in our presence.
