1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
This verse seems to echo what most of Christianity’s theology is today. They would take this verse and say, “See there, I told you that you can’t know the things of God. Why it says right there in the scriptures that you cannot see, nor hear, nor even conceive in your heart what God has planned or is planning.” Well, it does say that doesn’t it? I guess we just have to go on in wishful thinking, just wandering around in ignorance until the end.
Wait just a minute you would-be theologian! Read the rest of the passage. One reason our doctrines are so messed up is that we take verses out of context and build doctrines on them.
This verse says that it is written. Well when we see that, we need to find where it is written. This is a quote from the Old Testament, Isaiah 64:4. Now we all know that old means old and new means new. We have a new testament or covenant now with better benefits. Yes, under the old, man could not walk in and have the Spirit dwell in him. In the new, we are the Holy Spirit’s dwelling place, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Now read on. Notice the next verse starts, “BUT”. That means wait a minute something has changed. It goes on to say definitely that God HAS revealed those things to us now. How? By His Spirit who now lives inside every true believer and whom Jesus said would lead us into all truth.
Wow, this is wonderful I have God inside of me all the time to reveal to me all the things that He has planned for me and is desiring to give to me. No wonder the word gospel means good news.
