Hebrews 2:1
Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at anytime, we should let them slip
It is Important as a Christian that we maintain our lives in a climbing spiral toward maturity and not in a downward tailspin toward immaturity. The Scripture gives us an admonition to remember the things that we have already learned and keep adding to those things. It is very important to continue to grow and learn more and deeper truths, but it is equally as important not to forget the basics that we have already learned.
This truth is born out in the Old Testament where Moses instructed the children of Israel, at the Lord’s direction, to set aside a time each year and rehearse before all the congregation the things that God had done for them. In so doing, they were accomplishing two things. First, they were refreshing their memories and bringing to mind all the great ways that God had intervened in their lives to deliver them, save them, provide for them, heal them and in general to be everything that they needed. That would encourage them when facing times of trouble or want, knowing that the same God who did it yesterday would do it today.
Secondly, there were new Israelites coming of age every year. By rehearsing this before their children, they would be perpetuating their faith to a younger generation who was not alive or were too young to remember all that God had done for them in the past.
In our lives too, it is so important not to forget the things that God has already done for us and not to let slip the things that we have learned. Keep rehearsing and praising God for all that He has done and will do in our lives.
