Little Sheep

Psalm 23:1

The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want…..

One of the most quoted and familiar verses in the Bible is the 23rd Psalm. We have become so familiar with this passage that we have possibly missed the depth and true meaning that God wants us to understand. Once we grasp the concept and meaning, we can be set free from worry and fear of the future.

The Bible says that we are the sheep of His pasture. Now if we are His sheep, and He is our shepherd, that establishes a relationship that is worth looking into. The shepherd is in total control of the sheep and is responsible for their every need. He gets them out of the fold each day and takes them to where the choicest green pastures are. It is also a part of his routine to take them to the cool waters to drink and to be refreshed. Whenever danger threatens, he rises up quickly and boldly to defend and protect his beloved flock. Then at the close of the day, he takes them back to the fold where he tucks them in for the night. He then unfurls his bedding and camps beside them so as to be able to watch over them while they rest. There is virtually not a single moment of the twenty four hour day that the sheep are not under the watchful eye and the skillful care of the shepherd.

When you read the Bible you find that Jesus is also known as the Great Shepherd. The reason He is called this is so that we can gain understanding about His role in our lives. This means that He is our protector and provider in the same way the shepherd of the Psalms takes care of his sheep. We should rest in our Shepherd in the same way that those sheep rest in theirs. They do not get up every morning worrying about where or what they will eat or drink, they just trust the shepherd. They are not fearful, they trust the shepherd.

Don't you think that Jesus knows all your needs? He is a trustworthy Shepherd whose main concern is caring for you, His precious lamb.

MY WORD CONFESSION: Today I acknowledge Jesus as my one true Shepherd, He will meet my every need by His own power.
