Obedience Equals Blessing

Deuteronomy 11:26-28

Behold I place before you this day a blessing and a curse: A blessing if you obey the commandments of the Lord... and a curse if you will not obey the commandments of the Lord...

There are some folks who teach that it really doesn’t matter all that much what you do, so long as you try to live the best you can. But, I want to tell you, based on God's Word, that it does matter what you do. Just trying to live by the Golden Rule isn't enough. We must be obedient in all the things that God instructs us to do.

The degree of blessing we receive from God is largely up to us and the decisions we make in life. We can decide to obey God's Word from our heart and be blessed as a result, or we can choose to disobey God's Word and act contrary to what God has said.

I am a firm believer in the fact that God is a blessing God and wants all His children to be wonderfully blessed. He has done too many things so that He can bless us, not to bless us. The problem never has been God's unwillingness to bless His people, it has always been His people's unwillingness to get in the place where the blessing is.

The scripture for today even goes a step further. Not only does it say what happens in obedience, it also give the flip side. It tells us what will happen in disobedience. Just as obedience brings the blessing, disobedience brings the curse. Jesus has delivered us from the curse, but disobedience to God will reinstate that curse in your life.

When we disobey God, His blessing cannot rest upon us like He wants it to, because He cannot bless disobedience. If He did, He would not be true to His character. He cannot change so therefore it is we who have to do the changing. So, you see, the choice is up to us whether or not we are going to be successful and blessed. Obey the Lord, seek His will in all your life and be blessed or disobey and live under the curse. The choice is yours.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I choose today to be obedient to God and to His Word, therefore, I am blessed in all my ways.
