Ecclesiastes 11:5
As thou knowest not what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, even so thou knowest not the works of God, who maketh all
I don’t know how. I don’t know why. I don’t know who. I don’t know when. I don’t know what. I don’t know where. These are some of the toughest words that we have to speak. Yet, we often find ourselves having to say them. Let’s face it, there are lots of things about God that we do not know or understand. Very often, the ways of God do not match up with the ways that we understand. As the Bible says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Is.55:8-9)
What we know about God is what He in His grace has determined to let us know. For without God first revealing Himself to man, man could have no knowledge of Him at all. He is the Mystery of mysteries. He is the Supreme knowable Unknown. Yet, what we do know of Him, what He has chosen to reveal to us in Jesus Christ is not only mighty and awesome, but is also loving and merciful.
Man in his great wisdom cannot even be compared on the same scale with God. Therefore for us to say that we just don’t know, isn't really saying very much, since in reality, we know so very little.
I am reminded of Job's conversation with God when he realized how futile it was to question the judgment of God who had made the vast universe and put our tiny earth in place. When I consider all of the wonders that God has made and when I realize that He transcends space and time, I am humbled that He chose me to be His child. He who fills the great expanse of the universe has made me a temple of His divine presence because He desires to be near me. This is all too much for my little brain to comprehend. What a mighty God we serve.
