It’s All In Your Mind

1 Corinthians 10:5

Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

We have been doing a lot of study lately on the emotional makeup of man. You know, man is a very complicated and interesting creature. I guess that is what David meant when he said that he was created very fearfully and wonderfully.

We know that man is created in the image of God. The Godhead is triune in the fact that He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Man is also triune, or 3 part, he is spirit, soul, and body.

There is a lot of teaching about the spirit and body of man, but not a lot is taught about the soulish make up of man. In the soul of man there is the mind, the will and the emotions. These three are intricately interwoven and dependent on each other. The soul determines the basic character of an individual and can be the determining factor as to why people act and do the things that they do. For this reason it is so important to know and study this part of man. If one is to understand the way a man functions, he must understand the basic operation of the soul of man.

The mind will ultimately determine the individual. By that, I mean that a person is what he thinks. The Bible says it like this, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7)

If this is true, and it is, then it is so important to guard your thinking. A person literally becomes the sum total of his thoughts. The Bible says that we are to guard our thoughts and to bring our minds into captivity. We are to train our minds to think properly. Where does the mind get its training in right thinking? It has to get if from the Word of God. A person will never go wrong by letting the Bible shape his thinking. The Word of God is truth and knowing that truth will set a person free in every area of his life. Set your mind on the truth of the Word and prosper.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I will bring my thoughts into captivity and obedience to the Word of God for it is absolute truth.
