Jeremiah 18:6b
Behold as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in my hand, O house of Israel.
In order to become God's person, you have to go through the process that God uses to mold and shape you. This process, though necessary isn't always easy, in fact it is sometimes very difficult. Billy Graham has said, "God loves you just the way you are, but He loves you too much to leave you that way."
So, guess what? God is always working on us. He is always shaping us, always molding us. He loves us so much that He is willing to work overtime on us, if need be, to mold us and shape us into the image that He wants. That image that He is looking for, is the image of Christ. For us to be conformed to that image, we must undergo a change and that change doesn’t come over night, it is a process. If we are going to become God's person, then we have to go through God's process.
In the book of Jeremiah (Chapter 18), there is a story about a potter who was making a clay pot. The pot was not working out right, it was marred. The potter took the misshapen pot and reformed it into a new and different pot, one that pleased him. In this life, God is the Potter and we are the clay. We have been marred by sin. God has given His Son, Jesus, to be the payment for that sin. Now, He is at work molding us into the image of His son, so that we will be vessels that are fit for the Master's service.
If anyone is ever going to become a perfect vessel of honor to be used by God, in other words, the person God wants them to be, then they will have to be taken through this certain process. That is God's job.
Sometimes the process seems hard, even unbearable, but we must remember that it is God's love for us that will not permit him to leave us in that unfinished condition. He loves us so much that He is willing to take whatever time is needed to work with us until the image of Jesus can be seen in us. In that is He glorified and we are gratified.
