Glass Houses

John 13:35

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one for another.

Living in a glass house could be dangerous, as we all know, those living in glass houses should never start a stone throwing battle. The results could be very cutting. There is also another thing to consider if you live in a glass house. Privacy would be a hard commodity to come by, any one at any time could pass by and see all that was going on inside.

What has this got to do with today’s verse and a devotion for today? Really, all to do with it. When Jesus made this statement, He was putting His church, His people on display as though they were in glass houses. He was giving the world the right to look inside the inner sanctuary and private moments in the lives of His people to see if they really had anything that was worth having. He also was wanting them to see that His people were different than those of the world.

What was this that Jesus was so pleased with and was so important to Him that He wanted all the world to see? It was the love of God and the life of God that He wanted to show off to the lost world. He wanted the world to be able to look inside the church and see God’s perfect love and how that love provided for an abundant life.

The truth of the matter is, that He was giving the world the right to judge Himself by the way that His people loved and by the way that they lived. We know that the Bible says that we are ambassadors for Christ. This is just one area of many in which we have the opportunity to represent our Lord and Savior.

We must each remember as we go about our daily lives, that God has allowed us to be placed in glass houses, so that the world can see in and get a vision of what God is like.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I will live as though I were in a glass house, letting the love of God be seen by all of those who look in.
