Thy Kingdom Come

Matthew 6:10

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus was teaching His disciples how to pray. They had ask if He would do this, since John had taught his disciples. It seems kind of strange to us that they had to ask Jesus to teach them how that they were supposed to pray. Most of us have grown up around church and have heard prayers all of our lives, so we know how to pray. This was a fairly new concept to the disciples though. Up until now, the only prayers that they knew were the recited prayers that came from their childhood memory lessons. They had never known or seen anyone pray the way that Jesus did. He prayed with an authority and with a confidence that was totally new and exciting to them.

In this model prayer, Jesus gave instruction as to how we are to pray. We find that part of this instruction was that we are to pray that the Kingdom of God come and that the will of God be done on this earth as it is being done in heaven. This is an amazing concept and one that I believe we, in all of our knowledge of prayer, may have missed.

We are instructed to declare by faith and with authority that God’s will be done here on the earth. We are to command that the Kingdom of God rule on this earth in the same way that it does in heaven. Now you know that in heaven, there is no other will being done and no other kingdom being promoted but His.

If you remember, the Bible says that we are ambassadors for Christ. That means that we have the right to speak for Him, as Him. We speak His will, and He backs it up. This authority is given to us as the children of God. On more than one occasion, Jesus told His disciples to go out and to proclaim the Kingdom of God. It is our responsibility to make faith declarations that the Kingdom of God come and that the will of God be done, here and now on this earth. We are not to sit back and let the devil and his will be done. As the children of God, we are to have a part in the coming of the earth to God and to His will.

MY WORD CONFESSION: As my responsibility as a child of God, I declare that the kingdom of God come and His will be done now.
