Acts 2:42
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in the breaking of bread, and in prayer.
I love to watch little babies as they are first learning to walk. They are so funny. There are several styles of toddlers. There are the cautious one that ease into each new step, pausing to catch their balance before attempting another one. Then there are the “give me a hand hold and I will take a step ones.” They go from one piece of furniture or helping hand to the next, not venturing out without seeing their next support. This last one is my favorite, it is the super charged, get out of my way, go getter. This one starts off in a run and never slows down until he either runs into something or falls. Then, as soon as he can get gathered up, off he goes again, there is no stopping this one.
There is a lot of similarity in the way babies learn to walk and the way Christians walk. The Bible says that the Christian life is a walk of faith. You will find all of the above examples in the body of Christ if you will watch as believers attempt this faith walk.
Some will be very cautious, easing into one step and waiting awhile to see if anything happens before they attempt the next one. Each step is very calculated and sure, nothing is left to chance.
The next ones are those who will take a step only if there is already someone there ahead of them to give them a helping hand. These have to have something else to grasp hold of before they will let go and try any new thing. These will only go where others before them have gone, this is their security and hand hold, their assurance that they are not getting off into error or some other weird teaching.
Then comes the next, they hear the doctrine, read the Word and believe it to be true, regardless of whether they have seen or known anyone else who has been there before or not. If it is written then it is good enough for them. They just take off, trusting God to guide, believing the Word in faith and expecting God to do great miracles in their lives, willing to break new ground in the Kingdom of God for the benefit of the rest of the Body of Christ. Are you willing to go full speed ahead, for the glory of God?
