Beware The Spoilers

Colossians 2:8

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit ,after the traditions of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Once I opened a freezer and man did I ever get a surprise. The freezer had quit working a few days before and all the items in there had thawed and were rotten. That was the worst smell that I think I have ever smelled. Everything in there had spoiled, it was no good for anything except dog food. The same thing can happen to you if you are not careful. Now I am not talking about you thawing out. It would be good if some of us did thaw out and warm up a little. I am talking about being spoiled, having our lives ruined. Did you know that you can be a Christian and still not really be any good for anything? Well, you can. Let me show you how it can happen.

The first thing that will cause you to be spoiled is to base your Christian faith and belief on the philosophy and vain deceits of man. Man will never by his own philosophy do anything spiritual or good. It is vain to think that we can use the philosophy of man to please God, to walk in the Christian life. Man’s great philosophies miss the mark terribly when it comes to the Christian life and living by faith.

The traditions of men will ruin your faith also. One of the hardest things to overcome when trying to live or teach the victorious Christian life is the deep rooted traditions of men. “Well,” they say, “We haven't done it like this before,” or “That is not the way my parents and grand parents did it.” So what, let’s try it God’s way. Thirdly, it goes without saying that the fundamental teachings of this world are against the Bible’s teachings. These will never build, but will always destroy your faith. Beware, lest these spoil you and ruin your faith. Trust only in Christ Jesus and the Word of God, don’t be led astray by the false teachings of man and the world.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I will follow after Christ Jesus and will not be spoiled by the ways of man and this world.
