Exodus 33:11
And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face as a man speaketh to his friend.
What an awesome thing to be recorded about a man. Just think about this statement. Moses was face to face with God. He had conversations with God like you and I have with one another.
Have you ever wondered why Moses had such personal and close relationship with God? I surely have, in fact that has prompted me to read and study the life of Moses to see if I could find any clues as to why this was. In studying the life of Moses, I found there were two basic reasons that Moses had the relationship with God that he had.
The first thing that I saw was that Moses had a hunger to know the God who lived on the mountain. This hunger caused him to not be satisfied, as was everyone else, with just knowing that God was up there, He wanted to know this God.
The second thing that I see that set Moses apart from all the others, was that He was willing to turn aside and go see the One who made the mountain glow, the one who caused the bush to burn and yet did not consume it. In spite of all the warnings that he got about no man being able to go into the presence of God, Moses went. He stopped everything else that he was doing and made it a priority in his life to seek the God on the mountain.
I wonder why more of us today don’t speak with God face to face. I can just imagine how most of us will respond to this, “But that was Moses, He was different, he was called from a baby.” Really? The Bible says that God wants to know all of us in that way. Do your homework and find out for yourself. We live in a dispensation of time when God does not dwell in the mountain, he dwells in the very heart of the believer. He wants to speak to you face to face, as a friend, the way He did with Moses. Are you willing to let Him?
