The Right Way

Proverbs 14:12

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

I can remember driving along one time, headed to Colorado. We had just pulled over for a break and a rest stop and were on our way again. A few minutes went by and I felt that something wasn’t quite right. Very soon, I realized that I wasn’t headed to Colorado, I was headed right back to Texas. Now to you that might seem like a dumb thing to do, but you have to remember that at this time, we were spending two weeks in Texas and two weeks in Colorado working with two churches. It wasn’t too difficult to forget which way we were supposed to be going. You know, even though we were going the wrong way, we were surely making good time.

It is too bad that so much of the world is in the same situation that we were in. They are making good time, but going the wrong direction. Man is by nature, born going the wrong way. It all started a long time ago in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve chose to listen to the serpent instead of God. They became the captains of their own lives and the initiators of their own destinies. In that decision to eat of the forbidden tree, they became their own god, choosing for themselves what is right and what is wrong.

What a fatal mistake that was, because man is not really able to determine right from wrong and was never created to live in independence of God’s wisdom, guidance and fellowship. It was not intended that man be separated from God and His divine provision in our lives. Man was created to live by divine illumination, not by his own imaginations. It may have seemed like the right thing to do at the time, but as this verse says, there is a way that seems right, but the end is destruction. There is only one right way, and that is God’s way. Each day, we must choose to walk in His way, by His leadership. He will guide us in the way that is right, if we will let Him.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I will trust my future to the Lord, He will guide me in the way in which I should go, the right way.
