Priority One

Colossians 4:17

And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfill it.

This is a good piece of advice that Paul is giving here. In his letter that he has written to the Colossian church, he is reminding one of the members there to remember and fulfill the ministry that the Lord has given him.

It is so important for all of us to remember that we have been given specific ministry in this life. There are things that you are called and anointed to do. You have a special place in this world. The Bible teaches that when you became a believer, you were indwelt by the Spirit of God and that you were enabled by Him with gifts and all the tools needed to fulfill that calling. In so doing, when you stand before the judgment seat of Christ, you will receive certain rewards that will last forever. Now, I want you to think with me for just a moment. If God put you into a ministry, and gave you all the tools and equipment necessary to complete that ministry, don’t you think that it should be a priority in your life to first, find out what that ministry is, and second, to give yourself to the fulfilling of that ministry?

Most people that I know don’t seem to really believe that they have a special place, purpose or ministry on this earth. They think that only those who are called to full-time vocational Christian work have a real ministry. This could not be farther from the truth; vocational ministers are given the job of equipping the rest of the saints to do the work of the ministry. The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 3:6, that we are all ministers, able to carry out what we are called to do.

Knowing that God has called you and gifted you for ministry, don’t you think that it should be priority one, to find out what that ministry is and to get about the work of accomplishing it?

MY WORD CONFESSION: Knowing that God has enabled me for the work of ministry, I will make it priority one in my life to fulfill it.
