Joshua 23:15
…Choose you this day whom you will serve, but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.
Life is filled with choices. You make thousands of them each and every day. Some that you make, you are not even aware of, they are almost immediate. For example, the choice to wake up in the morning is automatic, the choice to get up takes some will power. Most of our choices don’t have too many consequences if we make the wrong decision nor do they require too much consideration. But, there are decisions that are very important and carry very significant if not eternal consequences.
Joshua made a very important decision and was not ashamed to stand up and tell all who would listen. He was, in effect, trying to encourage all who would listen to him to make that same decision. The decision was to choose to leave the false gods of this world and to follow the true and living God. In this world, you will come in contact with many types of people, of all races, creeds, and religious preferences. The one unifying factor with all of these people is the need to know and follow the one true and living God.
This decision is the most important of all decisions that any human will ever make. The reason being, this decision bears the consequence of eternity. Therefore, it is imperative that we be relentless in encouraging others, by our testimony and by our lives, to follow after God. We must always take advantage, as did Joshua, of each and every opportunity to lead others to know God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I don’t know about you, but I do know that me and my house are going to serve the Lord. Just between you and me, that is the only decision that makes any sense to me.
