The Day Of The Lord

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

There is a great day coming, we do not know exactly when it will be here, but we do know some of the times and seasons that will precede that day. According to the scriptures, we are living in the last days right now.

This brings to us a real dilemma. We are excited about the day of the Lord coming about, yet we are also concerned about those who are not ready, and there are many in that condition. In fact, if the truth were known, there are more who are not ready than there are who are ready.

Notice that the scripture says that God is not slack concerning His promise. He has said He will come again and that time as we know it will cease. At that time, all who know Jesus will enter into His everlasting rest and the place prepared for us, Heaven. It is also clear that those who are not ready and who have not received forgiveness for their sins through Jesus will enter into eternal separation from God and torment. This is not a pleasant thought.

The great thing is that God is not willing that any should perish. He wants all men everywhere to come to saving knowledge of Jesus. For this reason, we can be assured that the Spirit is at work now convicting all mankind and drawing them to the Father. Notice that God is longsuffering. He is very patient and will wait and work with a person very diligently.

This should be an encouragement to all of us who have family, friends, and acquaintances who need to be saved. It should also motivate us to pray and witness with great zeal and confidence.

MY WORD CONFESSION: God is not willing that any should perish; therefore, I will witness with confidence to all that I can.
