Success God’s Way

Joshua 1:5

. . . As I was with Moses, so shall I be with thee; I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

This is one of my favorite scriptures. The Lord used this verse in a very special and dynamic way in our lives when Mechele and I were living in Colorado. We were praying for guidance from the Lord about a very important change in the direction of our ministry. This was going to mean that we would be resigning from a steady position in our church and would be going out strictly by faith into uncharted and uncertain areas of ministry. As we prayed and read the Bible together one morning, the Lord gave us this verse. As we looked at each other and reread this verse, tears filled our eyes and we knew that we had our answer. The fact that God said that He would be with us and would never forsake us gave us assurance that we could not fail.

As we read on in this text, we got more insight into how that we could be successful in every area of our lives and in all that we did. Notice that the next few verses outline that formula for success.

First we noticed that we were to be strong and courageous. That is said three times here. It will always take that type of mentality to accomplish God’s will and purposes in you life.

The next thing that we saw was that we were to keep the Word that God had given us ever before us. That is to say, His written Word that we have in the Bible as well as the spoken word that He had put into our hearts. It cannot be emphasized enough the importance of building the Word into our very nature. This Word of God is powerful and will never change nor become ineffective. We are to meditate on it day and night, to ever keep it before us and then we are to be careful to do what it says to do. That is so important, just reading or hearing is not enough, to be truly successful we must act on the Word that God has given to us.

MY WORD CONFESSION: God will never fail me nor forsake me, He will ever be with me to cause me to be successful.
