Joshua 24:15
. . . Choose you this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Life is full of choices. We all have to make them everyday. Some choices have little or no consequence and some have eternal consequences.
God had instructed His people when they entered the Land of Promise to destroy all the heathen gods that were worshipped by the people that they displaced. He knew that if they didn’t, that they would be tempted to fall into the trap of idol worship. They didn’t obey and, of course, God was right. They had fallen into the worship of the gods of the heathen.
Now Joshua was giving them instruction and and an opportunity to start over. He tells basically two things in this passage. One, he says you can continue in the ways of your fathers or you can make a change to the true God of Israel. Secondly, he tells them exactly what he is going to do and that is to worship the true God who brought them out of Egypt and provide for them all the days and years in the wilderness. He was leading by example.
It is so important that you also make that choice, you are also confronted with the same decision that Israel was. Are you going to serve the gods of this present age, or are you going to serve the true and living God.
Not only should you choose the true God, by choosing life in Jesus Christ, but you need to make the confession that Joshua did so as to remove all doubt as to who is your God. Today declare to the world and to the devil that you will serve the Lord. Lead by example.
