Ephesians 2:6
and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
There is a natural progression in the Christian life that is described by these three commands. These words, in this order are the basics of the growth and development of a Christian. If we will learn these basic essentials, we can understand the process of going from an infant to a mature adult in the walk of faith.
The first thing that we must learn to do is to sit. The Bible says that we are seated together in the heavenlies with Christ Jesus. It is so important for us to recognize that Jesus has finished His work and is seated in heaven at the right hand of God. Now, if we are in Christ, and He is seated with God the Father in heaven, then we need to sit down and relax and stop fretting and worrying over every little thing. I assure you, God in heaven is not worried, He has it all in control and if we will just sit back and relax, and let Him have His way and take His time, He will work all things out. So, the first step in Christian growth is to learn to be like a little child and to sit back and let our Father take control.
The next step is to walk. Once a baby has learned to sit and be taken care of, the next step is to learn to walk. The Bible describes the Christian life as a walk of faith, walking in Christ and with Christ. Daily learning of Him and His ways. Daily growing and maturing in the things of God. The Bible says that as we have received Christ Jesus the Lord, we are to walk in Him. Now, how did we receive Christ? It was by faith. So, we are to walk in Him by faith, trusting Him day by day to meet our every need.
Last, but not least. We must, after growing and maturing, learn to stand. Standing in strength and victory in the power of God. The Bible says that having done all, we are to stand. God’s plan for us is to be standing in the victory when the smoke of the battle clears.
