Understanding Mysteries

1 Corinthians 14:2

For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

One of the most debated and controversial subjects in the church in these days is the subject of the miracle gifts of the Spirit. Some will tell you that they have all been done away with, some will say that they never have existed and still others will say that they are real and are still in operation today.

Believing the Bible and taking the whole scripture in context, I have to say that I believe that they are real and that they are still operative in the church today. Do I understand all there is to know about them? No I do not, but, neither do I understand how a black cow can eat green grass and give white milk and yellow butter. I assure you that I am not going to deny milk and butter because I do not understand them and I am certainly not going to stop enjoying them.

Do you believe that God knows things that you do not? Of course He does. Anything that God knows that you don’t is a mystery. Not a mystery to God, there are no mysteries to Him, but a mystery to you.

The Bible says that when we pray in another tongue that we speak the mysteries of God. There is still a problem, because we do not know what we have prayed. The Bible says that the mind is unfruitful. But, if you look at 1 Corinthians 2:9-13, you will see that the Spirit will reveal to us the deep things of God that cannot be understood by the natural mind. These are the deep things of God that only God knows, but that He is desiring to freely make known unto His children.

Jesus told His disciples that He had so much more that He wanted to teach them, but that they were not ready to receive it yet. He said that when the Spirit comes, that He will lead us into all truth. He will open up to us the mysteries of God. He will take the things of God that we do not know and will make them known unto us as we are able to receive them. Pray in the Spirit and ask Him to reveal mysteries to you.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I will pray in the Spirit and will speak the mysteries of God, He will then lead me into all truth.
