What Do You Think?

Philippians 4:8

. . . Think on these things.

There are some things that it doesn’t matter what we think about them. For example, I have heard people say that they don’t think that the miracles are still operating today. Some say that they don’t think that healing is available through the atonement. You know what I say to that? It doesn’t matter what you think it, God is not swayed by your thoughts on a subject. His Word and ways are not affected by popular opinion. You will miss out on God’s special blessings if you don’t believe in them, but it will not affect their availability.

I am not saying that it doesn’t matter what we think, I am just saying that truth is not affected by what we think about it. Truth is truth and that is final.

What I am saying here is that the Bible does give us some instruction on how and what we are to think. Read the first part of this verse and see. It says that we are to think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report and of virtue. In other words, we are to set our minds on things that edify and build up, not on things that drag us down.

It is so important that we give heed to this scriptural admonition. We know that the mind is the control center for the body and as a man thinks, so is he. Do not be trapped by the enemy in this area. When thoughts contrary to these come into your mind, immediately take control of them with an act of your will and dismiss them. Then you can replace them with thoughts from the categories that the Bible says to.

I can assure you that when you do this, your day will be better, your disposition will be agreeable, and your company will be sweeter.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I will guard my mind and only think on the things that the Bible says I should.
