go ahead, ask him

Matthew 7:7

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

I remember one time passing by the door to one of our bedrooms where the kids were playing. I heard them talking inside, and one was saying, “Go ahead, ask him.” Another said, ”No, you ask him.” This went on for a while and finally they decided that they would all come ask me. Now I really don’t remember what it was that was such a big deal that they were all nervous about asking me, but I can be pretty sure that whatever it was I did my best to give them what they wanted, or let them do what they were wanting to do.

It is amazing to me that we never question whether or not a daddy will do all that he can for His children, but we have serious doubts about whether or not God will be a faithful Father and will do what He can for us, His children.

It is evident by this type of thinking that we have been misled and ill taught about the nature of God. He is the initiator of blessings, it all started with him and He is still in the blessing business. We need to be reeducated by the Bible in this area. The Bible tells us that we are to ask God for what we want and what we need. In fact, we are told that it blesses God to be able to provide for us.

There is a little obscure verse in the Old Testament, right in the middle of all the genealogies, that gives us a great insight into God’s heart. It shows that He has a desire to bless us even more than we want to be blessed. In 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 it says that Jabez was more honorable than his brothers because he asked God to bless him indeed, and to expand his borders. It pleased God that he should ask this, not only are we told that he was honorable, but also that He granted him his request.

Don’t be afraid to ask God for His blessings, He wants to bless you, it is His nature to do so. Go ahead, ask Him. You won’t be disappointed.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I am being blessed indeed and my borders are being expanded, the hand of the Lord is upon me.
