the next step is yours

Romans 12:1

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

When it comes to becoming a Christian, we have to say that it is all God’s work. He is the initiator, He is the one who reached out first to mankind. It is He who made the way clear so that we could be saved. If it were not for this initial work of God in reaching out to man, there would be no salvation and man would forever be doomed to live and die in his sin, separated from God for eternity.

There is another aspect of the work of God that is totally of God. It is He who baptizes us with His Holy Spirit. We can ask and expect, but no effort or ritual can bring to us this special gift of God. As with the gift of salvation, which is not of works that any man should boast, so is the gift of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. This special enabling with the power of God to live the supernatural life comes at the direction and discretion of God, to all who will let Him give it to them. He will bring unto the believer special gifts that will empower that believer to know and accomplish things which in the natural, he could not know or do.

You may be saying here that there is really no part that the believer himself plays in the Christian life other than to receive what God has already done or prepared. While this may be true of the first things mentioned here, there is a part that is totally left up to the individual believer. In this area, God plays no part at all. It is in the consecration of each individual. The term consecration, sometimes called discipleship, commitment, and dedication, is, regardless of what term you may use, the direct act of the will of the individual believer. The only one who can dedicate your life to God is you. No one can do it for you and you can’t do it for someone else. God is the only one who can save and baptize with the Spirit, after that, it is up to you. Will you consecrate your life to Him. He has done His part and is now waiting for you to do the part that only you can do. The next step is yours will you take it?.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I receive the free gifts of salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, in return I consecrate my life unto God.
