out with the old, in with the new

Philippians 3:13-14

…but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

It is hard to believe that another year has come and gone. I seems like the longer we are here on this earth, the faster the years seem to fly by. As I look back, I think of how I used to wonder about the future and what it would bring. Well, the future is now the present and far too soon, the present will be the past. You know, we have to be careful so as not to wake up to find out that life has passed us by and the things that we intended to do some day never got done.

It is so important that we live in the present, that we get done what we need to and what we can while we have the time and the ability. It does no good to worry about the past, it is gone and nothing can bring it back. Don’t worry or fret over what you should have done or wished you had done. If you do, you will let the past rob you of your present and of your future. Paul said to forget those things of the past. Look out ahead of you, make plans for your future. We don’t know how long before Jesus comes again, no one knows that day. We don’t even know how long we have in this lifetime if Jesus doesn’t come back for another thousand years. All we know is that we have this present time and we should be utilizing it fully.

Jesus addressed this issue when He said that we should all work while it is daylight, because the night is coming when no one will be able to work. He said that there is plenty to be done and we all have a calling in our lives to accomplish our God-given goals. We have a new year coming upon us, let’s make it our goal to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus this next year, accomplishing the things that God has for us.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I will not live in the past but will reach forth for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
