a citizen of heaven

Philippians 3:20

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am an American, through and through, and I love my country. I am as patriotic as anyone. When I see the Red, White, and Blue waving it gives goose bumps. Any time I am somewhere that they play the National Anthem, tears come to my eyes. I am so grateful for the liberty that I have in the United States of America and I do not take lightly what it cost to have this liberty and to preserve it year by year.

I gladly pledge my allegiance to America, one nation under God. That is how our founding fathers established this nation and that is what makes it a great nation that I can pledge allegiance to. When I hear someone running down our country or wanting to take the phrase “under God” out of our Pledge, it makes my blood boil. My belief is that if people don’t want a nation under God then they should not try to change it for those who do, they should simply go find them one that is not under God.

As proud and blessed as I am to be an American, I am even more blessed and prouder to be a Christian. That is my first allegiance. I know of no place on earth that I would rather live than here in the U.S. A., but this is not my home. My true and lasting allegiance is to my heavenly home, where my eternal citizenship is. I am so thankful for the price that was paid so that I could be a heavenly citizen.

When I think about that, I really get excited. Just think about it, here I was, lost and separated from God, my citizenship was destined to be Hell. Then, just in time, Jesus appeared and bought me out of that awful place and gave me the right to become a Heavenly citizen. It is time that we all start looking upward, the signs say that Jesus’ return is near. He is getting ready to take His own to their reward in Heaven where we will dwell in peace forever.

MY WORD CONFESSION: My citizenship is in heaven and I look for the appearing of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
