2 Kings 4:7
Go sell the oil and pay thy debts then you and your children live on the rest.
We have come into this event in the life of Elisha at the end of a very interesting happening. Elisha was going about his affairs when he was confronted by a newly widowed lady. She tells him that her husband, whom Elisha knew, was now dead and that she had no money. The creditor was coming to sell her two sons to pay off his debt. Now Elisha asks her an interesting question, he asks her what she has of value. Her answer was that she only had a little oil.
The instruction that Elisha gave her was to go borrow as many pots as she could get her hands on. That seemed kind of foolish, but she obeyed and when they got back with the pots he said to start pouring the oil. Now common sense would tell you that this doesn’t make sense, all the oil that she has is in this one little container.
But, she obeyed the man of God and the oil kept flowing from that little pot until every pot that she had borrowed was full to the brim. He told her to go sell the oil, pay the debt and live on the rest.
What a great story and lesson on God’s provision. He has a bountiful supply just waiting for you and for me. He can take the little that you have and multiply it over and over and over until it is enough to meet all your needs and to have plenty left over for you to live on. Isn’t that exciting? If we only have the faith that the little widow had, we can also live in the abundance of God’s supply.
An interesting thing to note here is how much oil came from the original container. Did you catch that? Elisha said get lots of vessels. Well, she did, and the oil ran freely until all the containers were full. Her supply was only limited by her faith to get containers. I say to you today that your supply is only limited by your willingness to act on what God has said.
