confess don’t cover

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We as Christians are so blessed. God has provided us with everything that we need in every area of life. The Word says that He has blessed us with all spiritual blessings. He shows His great desire to have a relationship and fellowship with us in the fact that He has made a way for us to have our sins taken care of and cleansed on a daily basis. We know that sin would break that free flow of fellowship so He says that if we confess our sins, He will forgive them and that broken fellowship that the sin has caused will be restored.

If this is the case then why do we so often feel that we are separated from God? I think that the answer lies in the difference between confession and covering. Too often, we, instead of confessing, try to cover our sin. That is, we try to act like we don’t have sin or didn’t commit sin. We often make excuses for our sin by comparing our lives with some whom we know have done more wrong than we have. In so doing, we try to cover our sin, to ignore it and hope that it will go away.

The Bible says in Psalm 32, Blessed is the man whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Now there is a big difference here in how the sin is covered. If we try to hide it and cover it ourselves, it only serves to make matters worse, it breaks our fellowship with God. But, if we confess it, He forgives it and then He covers it with the blood of Jesus. Now in that case, there is no more sin. The blood of Jesus applied to our sin, past, present and future cleanses us and delivers us from all unrighteousness.

Today, you can have pure unhindered fellowship with God. He has said that by confessing, not covering up your sin, you will be forgiven.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I confess my sins before God and He is faithful to forgive and cleanse me.
