the day the sun stood still

Joshua 10:13

And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies.

The kings of all the Amorites had arrayed themselves against the Gibeonites because they had made peace with the children of Israel. Now Joshua had made a pact with Gibeon to protect her, and now it was time for him to keep his word. By the way, it was against God’s perfect will that Joshua do that. (See Joshua 9 for the story) Nevertheless God honored Joshua’s word.

God told Joshua the He would deliver the Amorites into his hand, so Joshua was confident going into the battle that he was going to win. Sure enough, the Amorites were no match for the Children of God. The battle was very one-sided and victory was assured, but there was one problem. The day was getting on and night was setting in. Joshua, standing before all the people, told the sun to stand still and the moon to stay itself in the sky so that they could finish the battle, and it did.

Now that sounds too incredible to be true. You can’t just stop the earth from rotating, that would be catastrophic. The seas would pile up and tidal waves would destroy most if not all of the earth. But, do you know what? Scientists found that when they programmed their computers to find exact time measurements that they came up just about a day short. WOW!

Now think about that for a minute, what kind of problem or situation do you have that is too big for God. Our God is so awesome that He can stop the earth if need be to accomplish His will in your life. He knows your need and is willing and able to meet it for you. Just trust God to work it out.

MY WORD CONFESSION: My God is willing and able to make the earth stand still to accomplish His will in my life.
