the name above all names

Philippians 2:9-10

Wherefore, God has highly exalted Him and given him a name which is above every name and at the name of Jesus, every knee must bow.

There is a lot to be said about a person’s name. People who own their own businesses spend lots of time, energy and even money to make their name known and well thought of. To them, a good name means more business and therefore more money.

Most people are proud of their name and like to hear it said by others. They like to have a good name and don’t want anyone else slandering it. We do a lot to keep our name good because a persons character is associated with their name. I have seen good and honest people have a hard time making it and getting a good start because of some of their family who have made a bad name for themselves.

That is certainly not the case with the name of Jesus. The Bible says that God has given Him a highly praised name that is above all other names. When you say Jesus, you have said the highest name of all. It is really interesting to watch the reaction of people to the name of Jesus. Those who are saved worship and adore the name, to them it is about salvation, deliverance, healing and heaven. But, to the lost it is a reproach. They do not like to hear the name of Jesus. You can talk about God all you want, that is even fashionable, but you hit a nerve in people when you say Jesus. The devil and his demons hate that name and will stir up a crowd in a hurry to get that name silenced.

Mechele and I visited a lady in a mental ward in the hospital one time. She was fine as long as we just talked about God, she even initiated the conversation, but when we mentioned Jesus, she went into a real rage. You see the name of Jesus causes demons to tremble, and you have the right to use that name, use it often.

MY WORD CONFESSION: When I say the name of Jesus, I have gone to the highest authority, and every knee must bow.
