what is truth?

John 17:7

Sanctify them through thy truth; thy word is truth.

The society of today would tell you that there really is no absolute truth. In the mind set of this present age, all truth is relative. In other words, truth is only truth if it goes along with what a person really wants to believe. There are no unmovable standards by which we can set our sights. The term “if it feels good, do it” reflects this present day philosophy.

I have a really good definition for truth, it is this: Truth is what God says in any situation or circumstance. You see what God says will always be right. He is powerful enough to back up everything that He says. Regardless of popular opinion or gallop polls, what God says always will be the final answer. I have found that the truth of the Word of God is not affected by any of the extraneous thoughts or whims of this world. It is not validated nor invalidated by those who believe or disbelieve it. It is not persuaded by the longevity of a belief or by the popularity of that belief. You know, it really doesn’t matter if Grandpa and Grandma passed the belief on to mom and dad and they passed it on to you. Neither does it matter that we have always done it that way. You see the only thing that really matters is what does God say about it.

The Bible says that God is not a man that he should lie. You can go to the bank with any thing that God has said in His word. He has not nor will He ever change His word to meet the changing whims and fancies of our fallen world. We either get with what God says or get it wrong. You may say that a lot of people are very sincere in their belief, but they don’t believe the Bible. Sincerity also will not change God’s Word. They will simply be “sincerely wrong,” end of the discussion. If you want to get it right, go with what God says.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I believe your word oh God, your word is truth, absolute truth.
