a great pick me up

James 4:10

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He shall lift you up.

We are living in times when people are tired, worn out and burdened down. Although physically, people may not work as hard as in times past, the mental and social stresses are doing more harm than the physical labor of times gone by. As a result of the stress and time pressure on our society today, people have resorted to drugs to help them make it. I am not talking about just illegal drugs, there are many, many just plain old ordinary people taking drugs, prescription drugs. They are perfectly legal but are doing great harm to us physically. Not only physically, but also psychologically. We are getting dependent on them so much so that we cannot function without them. We take a pill to make us sleep, one to wake us up and one to help speed up our metabolism so we will not gain weight.

I am not just talking about people who are lost, the Christian world is just as bad. We too have become prescription junkies.

The Bible says that if we need to be lifted up we should lay down. Do what? Yes, we should humble ourselves or lay ourselves down at the feet of Jesus and let him impart into us all that we need. He will lift us up and give to us the ability to sleep at night and awaken in the morning with a freshness and vitality that no drug can give us.

It is sad that we as Christians use the same methods that the world uses instead of learning to draw from the Lord the strength and power that we need on a daily basis.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I humble myself in the sight of the Lord and He lifts me up.
