Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
We are living in an ever-changing world. It seems that with all of the scientific advancements and discoveries that before you get something broken in good, there is a new and improved model already out. The finest, top of the line, computer of today will be tomorrow’s 2nd or 3rd place finisher.
In this fast paced and changing world, we have gotten accustomed to the fact that nothing stays the same very long and that thought or mindset has gotten over into our theology. We are constantly being tempted to think that God does not do today what He did in the years past. Therefore, we don’t live expecting God to intervene and do great miracles in our lives on a daily basis. Some denominations even teach that you can’t expect these things to happen because the miracles have ceased.
I want to be first in line to say that all this is a bunch of hogwash. God is not changeable. One of God’s attributes is His immutability, which means He is unchanging. I am so glad that I can depend on God to do for me the same things that He did for the saints of old. I am so thankful that Jesus, who is also God, never changes. He is still about the works that God sent Him to do. Some would say that He still saves today but that is all. Well, if He has changed and does not still heal, deliver and so on today, how can I be sure that He still saves? You know if He changed in some points, what assurance do I have that He hasn’t totally changed His mind about all things.
The truth is that He hasn’t changed one bit. He is now and forever the same and I can depend on Him to do today all He has ever done. After all, He is God and God never changes. PTL!
