keys to the kingdom

Matthew 16:19

And I will give unto thee the keys to the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

I don't have to tell you what a key is, or what it is for. We all know that keys are for opening doors that are locked and for locking doors that are open. It all depends on what your need is whether you are going to lock or unlock. In the Scripture, a key represents power and authority.

According to this verse then, God has given to believers the power and authority to lock or unlock things here on this earth. Isn't that amazing? We can lock up things that are bad, evil or against the will of God and we can loose the things that are good, blessed and in God's will.

This should have a profound affect on a person's daily living. Let me ask you a question. Do you have joy, peace, contentment, and victory in your life every single day? This is God's will for your life and He has provided you with the keys that will bring that joy, happiness, peace, contentment and fullness in the Holy Spirit, regardless of your situation or circumstances. That is one of the applications of today's verse.

Have you been convinced that it is impossible for you to ever have the happiness and joy that you once had or that you desired to have? So often, circumstances and past events make it look like things will never be the as good as they were in the past. Well, that is not the truth! The keys that God gives you are designed to open the doors that the devil has told you are forever locked. John 10:10 tells us, "The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy…" Man, that is bad news. But, the verse doesn’t stop, it keeps on going and gives us the good news by saying, "I (Jesus) am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly." Now that's what I'm talking about, say it out loud, "MORE ABUNDANTLY." Jesus has given the keys to the kingdom so that we can enjoy every day to the fullest. Isn't that what "more" says to you? More abundantly means more abundance of contentment, joy, peace and all the good things that God has for you and me.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I have the keys to the Kingdom and I will lock up the bad and open up the good and enjoy life every day.
