knowing the mind of god

Steve McMichael - June 23, 2025

1 Corinthians 2:9

Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, neither has entered into the heart of man the things that God has prepared for them that love Him.

It is a common belief in many Christian circles to believe that it is next to impossible to know the mind of God. Except for special conditions, and a select few believers, the mind and ways of God are a mystery that most believe will remain unknown. Even though this is a widely accepted truth, it is a sadly mistaken acceptance. The reason that it is so sad is that it is just not true. This erroneous way of thinking is depriving believers of much needed guidance and instruction.

How can I be so confident that what I am saying is true? That is a good question. There are several reasons. The first is that we have the Word of God, the Bible given to us. The Bible reveals the mind of God, because it is the thoughts of God in written and recorded form. One sure way to know the mind of God on something is to read the Bible. For example, how do we know what God’s mind is on the subjects of murder, adultery, stealing, lying, and so forth? The simple truth is that the Bible tells us. So, we have the mind of God because the Word of God has revealed it.

Is this the only way that we can know God’s mind? Certainly not, if you will read further in today’s scripture, you will see that it goes on to say that the Spirit reveals the deep things of God to us. All believers have the Spirit of God dwelling in them. Remember, Jesus said that the Spirit would come to dwell in the believer and one of the most important ministries that He would perform would be to lead into all truth. It is obvious that what God thinks about any given subject is truth. Therefore, He leads the believer into the thoughts of God.

Remarkable as it may seem, God does want His children to know His thoughts. This is the only way that we can walk in His truth and in His divine will. Start today seeking the mind of God.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I am filled with the Holy Spirit and He is revealing the deep things of God to me so that I may know them.
